Common Farm Insurance Questions:
What does it cost to insure a tractor? The cost to insure a tractor is determined by the value of the tractor. It will cost more to insure a $100,000 tractor than a $10,000 one.
What does liability cover on my farm? If in the event of a loss, liability will cover you and your assets from a lawsuit. For example – If you’re burning weeds and the fire gets away from you and your neighbor’s house burns down – you will be liable for their home. Liability insurance will cover their home up to your liability limit.
Do I have to insure my trailer? There is no cost for liability as it will follow the vehicle that is pulling the trailer, but if you want physical damage on a trailer you will need to list it and pay a premium.
Can I insure my livestock? Easy answer is YES, but when purchasing a policy you will need to double check the perils. Blizzard insurance is a policy all it’s own. You can insure your livestock on your farmowners policy for covered perils. Death due to vehicle collision is a covered peril but you must have that endorsement on the policy.
Should I insure my welder? It is always a good idea to insure tools such as a welder, air compressor to cover the obvious peril of theft. Those items can disappear easily on the farm.
Are my tools covered by insurance? Yes for a minimal amount. The insurance will not pay for any one item that is over $2000. Those items must be listed to be covered for their full value.
Are my fences covered by insurance? Fences would fall under “other structures”. Be sure to view your policy to see if you have coverage for other structures and your limit is sufficient. If you want your corrals covered they would need to be listed and an additional premium would be assessed.
